Updating Note on 10/29/16: My practice today is for the most part mortgage foreclosure defense, as to foreclosure actions commenced by banks, note-purchasing vulture funds, securitzed note owners, servicers and others, in NYS's 62 counties and in many other states (including California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Iowa, Maryland, Illinois, Connecticut). My website www.carlperson.com provides a substantial amount of useful information for homeowners in any NYS county or in any state facing the threat of foreclosure.
Until 2008, I had a varied commercial litigation law practice:
- representing plaintiffs in federal and state courts in contingent-fee litigation as to antitrust, civil rights, fraud, libel, predatory lending and employment cases
- representing defendants in federal courts in trademark, copyright, maritime, business tort, contract, fraud, defamation, and other commercial cases
- representing defendants in federal courts as local counsel
- representing plaintiffs or defendants in various other types of litigation the outcome of which is important to the clients - in other words, I'm interested in almost any type of civil litigation except negligence, malpractice, small claims, matrimonials, and filing of bankruptcy proceedings
- I do not do transactional work such as setting up corporations, filing of copyright or trademark applications, or real estate closings
Brief Description of Today's Law Practice: Small 3-attorney law firm representing residential homeowners (and commercial real property owners) in foreclosures brought or threatened against them in any of New York State's 62 counties or in any other state. I cannot do this work on a contingent-fee basis. But I will listen to anyone with a foreclosure problem and try to give them initial direction even if they cannot afford to retain a lawyer.

Experience with Education and Career-Field Training
In 1972 I created the first paralegal school in the United States opened to male and female graduates of almost any college, which was taught at the post graduate level, and had school licensing, accreditation and federal student loans. The only other school at that time was a training program for female graduates of the 7 Sisters colleges, who upon program completion were placed in major law firms in major cities in the U.S. After I opened up my school, about 2,000 community colleges and even universities such as NYU created paralegal training programs of their own, and through this competition high school graduation became a minimum qualification to enter the field.
Now, after a lifetime in law and business, I have created another career field (for which I had received licensing, accreditation and student loans back in 1993, and no school in the country even to this date (10/29/16) has tried to offer the course, for which graduates would be paid $25 to $60 per hour or much, much more, as the person who would handle the varied and ever-increasing staff-function duties of running a small business or professional firm, to free up the time of its owner to do the higher-value work, which enables the business or professional firm owner to pay what may appear to be a very high salary. If you are interested, you can check this out in my website I wrote for Atlantic City, to try to help the ever-increasing joblessness if its residents. In spite of my occasional but repeated efforts, not a single union leader, newspaper reporter, elected official or local community college representative has contacted me to obtain more information. If you want to know why this is so, please give me a call, at 212-307-4444. Anyway, my legal practice has also given me an opportunity to try get needed changes to provide a better standard of living for U.S. citizens and residents, which will occur, I believe, by strengthening small business and the middle class.
